Backyard Birds

We recently started putting out birdseed and we are having a lot of birds at our feeder and I'm keeping track of them. We have Nuthatches, Chickadees, Titmice (Heehee), Red-Bellied Woodpeckers, Downy Woodpeckers, a Cardinal I saw flying about that was very beautiful, and a couple of Song Sparrows. We also put out suet that the nuthatches and woodpeckers love! I will update this when we get more birds.

Birding at John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge in Tinicum!

The 18th of February my mom and a couple of friends and I went on a birding tour group at John Heinz National Refuge in Tinicum Township. We saw, Rusty and Red-winged Blackbirds, a Fox sparrow, a Blue Jay, a bald eagle's nest where you could barely see the eagle's head peeking over the top, American crows, song sparrows, black-capped chickadees, american robins, heard the northern mockingbird, some ducks and mergansers, and a bunch more! Visit the refuge website and learn more at http://www.fws.gov/heinz/index.html

Snowy Owl at Merrill Creek!

There is a Arctic owl at Merrill Creek Reservoir that has taken refuge for the winter. I went to see it today with my mother and grandma. She was really beautiful and reminded me of my cat. Once you got the binoculars set you would see her turn her head and preen her feathers! It was really cool, and I hope you can visit her too. You can visit Merrill Creek's website at http://www.merrillcreek.com/home.html
