Last year, I went to an event at my old school where they created a garden across the street. Here are some of the pictures and videos I took.
We had to clear a bare spot on the ground, and then dig a hole, and then put the flower in!

Your mystery flowers are cosmos. I often plant them in my garden because they are pretty, easy to grow, and they make good cut flowers. They last a long time in water in a vase. You might try growing some in your own garden next spring.
